THE HISTORY OF THE PUBSPRAWL

Those who don't know their PubSprawl history are doomed to annually repeat it...

7th Annual PubSprawl
69 people joined us at the first pub on the 'Sprawl
(not all pictured here of course).

Started in the late years of the 20th Century, the PubSprawl is still going strong. Now with one-tenths of a century behind it, the PubSprawl, once an embarassedly unnamed pubcrawl, now shows no signs of stopping. What started as a group of 20 friends drinking the day away has quickly grown into a group of 250+ friends drinking the day away.

Now that's progress.

Key to PubSprawl's growth was founder Peggy Mahoney's superb organizational abilities, charm, and Irish dedication. Those who meet her, never forget her. Those who have forgotten, simply must meet her again. Her insistence that all who join the PubSrawl MUST bring a friend or two and MUST come ready to talk and socialize with others has made this - and we say this without exaggeration - one of the largest pubcrawls in the history of space and time.

Diehard PubSprawlers start early, either at a pre-party or at the first bar along the route. Other PubSprawlers join up later during the day, unable to make it the whole day. Some even just show up at the last bar. Regardless, all PubSprawlers have a good time. Those that don't, simply don't tell us.

Oftentimes PubSprawlers end up unwittingly meeting fellow co-workers and old college friends long forgotten. Some have even made that elusive "love connection," despite the curse of the PubSprawl King & Queen who have yet to ever hit it off with one another.

Over the years, the PubSprawl boasts bars phoning them and asking "where are you guys?", bars asking them to leave because they've drunk up and depleted all the bar's hard liquor, and actual bars following and stalking PubSprawlers, stretching the concept of what is meant by a "pub crawl."

If you're new to the PubSprawl, the PubSprawl website contains all the vital info you need, including the complete route with estimated time of arrival and basic everyone-should-know-this-already rules (no drinking and driving, fighting, know when to say when, etc.) "Estimated times of arrival" cannot be stressed enough because as the PubSprawl continues throughout the day and gathers more and more participants, it is near impossible to get the 250+ to work as a team and head to the next pub.

The PubSprawl website, started in the year 2000 in an effort to co-ordinate information about the ever-growing PubSprawl, remains open all year round. It's the only place on the internet that tackles what other media outlets fail to cover: the PubSprawl. PNN (PubSprawl News Network) and NPR (National PubSprawl Radio) will keep you up-to-date on everything PubSprawl. Enjoy some Irish music by Beatnik Turtle as you page through Seamus O'Ffend's collection of limericks, jokes, and toasts.

No strangers to having a good time, Beatnik Turtle sponsors the site by lending their engineers and IT professionals for tax-write off purposes. When not sifting through HTML code and updating this site, they maintain this website here and continue to write and record music not only for their next upcoming albums (they have a live album due out later this year), but also for television, theater, radio, websites, and podcasts.

As always, we wish you the best this PubSprawl - "may your PubSprawl be long and enjoyable and your hangover short and, uh...enjoyable?"
